School workshop on gifted education

15. March 2023

“take action” – materials shape our world. Under this motto, about 20 students from Upper Franconia experienced an exciting day at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bayreuth.

The workshop, which was offered as part of the promotion of gifted students for the 9th and 10th grades of the Upper Franconian grammar schools, opened with an overview lecture on the subject of “Fascination with materials science”. In two groups, the young researchers experienced directly in the laboratory how electricity can be generated with fruit (and how a high-tech battery of the future is built) and what materials can withstand in bending tests. After a hearty lunch in the university canteen, the effects of microplastics were discussed together.
